What is Tyre Water Ballasting?
Tyre water ballasting is the partial or full filling of the rear tractor tyres with water (usually with calcium chloride to prevent the water from freezing). Water ballasting in tyres benefits farmers by providing additional traction and stability without the need for extra equipment at the point of contact with the ground, where the liquid weight of the tyre is added.
Why Do Farmers Use Tyre Water Ballasting?
Tractors are built to carry heavy loads and to operate heavy implements, but if too much weight is not placed on the rear wheels, they can spin instead of gripping, particularly if on loose or wet ground.
Water is the favoured choice over adding extra weights or bolts to the wheels, as it helps farmers to save money, ensure an even spread of weight, and does not require space on the tractor frame. In muddy and loose fields, more weight on the tyres means less wheel slip.

How is Tyre Water Ballasting Done?
